Elora Mews Shops -
Location- UNITS 6 & 7
An eclectic collection of original art by over 100
artists (the majority Canadian), in glass, wood, iron, pottery,
contemporary paintings and designer jewellery, metal sculptures and
furniture, and other unusual furniture and décor.
1812 sq. ft. retail space
This beautiful expanded retail store is full of character, and is
much larger on the inside than you would expect, with a variety of
shapes and sizes of merchandising areas, some original exposed limestone
walls, and archways and windows set within the thick old walls. Many
windows and high walls and ceilings create a bright, spacious retail
environment for displaying paintings and other original works of artists
and designers.
The most visible section from the Grand River walking bridge and from
Mill Street is the 2-storey well-preserved century-old limestone
building "centrepiece" of the Elora Mews courtyard. From there, the
store wraps around the right back corner of the courtyard, with a new
entrance and additional show windows along the right original wing of
the building. It adjoins UNIT 5, an additional space for special
exhibits and shows featuring Karger Gallery artists, artisans, and
designers.
The Karger Gallery operated for some years in the 2-storey stone
building, with its exposed limestone walls and open staircase. In
January 1999, the gallery was enlarged by creating an archway through
the thick stone walls across the full right back of the building. The
most recent expansion, in June 2002, has created a much more spacious,
flowing gallery space, allowing for even more exciting merchandising
opportunities, and more separate areas for customers to explore.
