Elora Mews Shops - Location -
UNITS 8 & 9
This
shop of “whimsical creations for home and garden” has expanded in
2001. The
hallmark birdcages, huge wrought iron gazebos, garden furniture,
illustrated children's books and original paintings of hunting scenes
are still a mainstay of this store, but now there is also space for a
more elegant “French Country” collection.
1818 sq. ft. retail space
This whole space now occupied by “Tinder Tree” is
an addition built in 1988, adjoining the 2-storey stone building, and
wrapping around the courtyard to the planter area. Although 2 stores
operated in completely separate Units 8 and 9 from 1988-2001, the
original truss roof construction had no supporting inner walls, thus
allowing the connection of the 2 units, to create one spectacular retail
space.
The new entrance from the front of this wing, right in
front of the planter and café seating area, is very visible and
accessible from the walking bridge and Mill Street. Due to the elevation
of the property, and the solid bedrock foundation under the back of the
building, the back of the shop (Unit 8) is raised a few steps, and has a
2-storey-high ceiling and exposed limestone wall (the original outside
wall of Unit 7).
